Before enrolling

Step 1: SIR | Submit your Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) by May 1st. You must be an admitted UCI student planning to attend UCI. |
Step 2: Pathways | Freshman Edge has three unique pathways that you can choose from: Freshman Edge, Freshman Edge International, and Summer Bridge. Visit the Pathways page to see which one fits you best. |
Step 3: Academics | Visit the Academics page to choose your desired course and an alternate choice for Freshman Edge. This step does not apply for Freshman Edge International or Summer Bridge students. |
Step 4: Placement Exams | If you are planning on taking any math, chemistry, physics, writing or foreign language courses during Freshman Edge, then you should make sure to take the required Placement Exams as soon as possible. By taking your placement exams early, you will know what courses (in the above subject areas) to take during Freshman Edge. For more information about Placement Exams, please visit the UCI Academic Testing Office website. You will also receive follow-up information regarding your placement exams. Please note that if you receive the Summer Bridge Scholarship, you will be required to enroll in UNI STU 84 and HISTORY/LPS 60. |
Step 5: Financial Aid (optional) | Financial Aid is available for students enrolling in summer courses for 2020. Please visit our Financial Aid page for more information. |
Step 6: Program Liability Waiver | Before enrolling in Freshman Edge, please print out and complete the Waiver of Liability. You will need to submit a scanned PDF copy of your waiver as a part of your online enrollment. – Freshman Edge |

Step 7: Enroll | Submit your enrollment through the Online Enrollment Form . If you are unable to enroll with your UCInetID, please use the Alternate Login option to create an account. – The deadline for enrollment is July 15. | Deadline will be July 15 for students who do not need to obtain a new I-20 for Summer Study. If you will need an F-1 student visa to study at UC Irvine, your I-20 documentation will be processed by the UCI International Center. Students in this category should enroll by June 10. The start date of your I-20 can be changed to early August once your Freshman Edge International enrollment form and payment are received and processed by our office. Follow the instructions given in your UCI Admissions correspondence. It is the student’s responsibility to complete the necessary steps to obtain a visa with UC Irvine. All Freshman Edge students are required to attend SPOP. Please see our SPOP page for more details. | Submit your Summer Bridge Application online through Student Success Initiatives. The deadline will be May 25. Applicants for Summer Bridge must also complete their 2019-2020 FAFSA or 2019-2020 CA Dream Act Application by late May – please visit our Financial Aid page. Students who plan on attending Freshman Edge even if a Summer Bridge Scholarship is not awarded, should also enroll in Freshman Edge to save their space in the program and receive the best chances at a space in their desired course. Summer Bridge Scholarship applicants will be notified of their acceptance status in mid-May. |
After Enrolling

Step 8: Confirmation & Welcome E-mails | After successfully enrolling in Freshman Edge, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from our office. Within 7-10 days of receiving your confirmation e-mail, you should expect to receive an additional Welcome E-mail containing a comprehensive list of next steps to complete before Freshman Edge begins. If you applied for a Summer Bridge Scholarship, you will be contacted by the UCI Student Success Initiatives office to let you know if a scholarship is being offered to you. |
Step 9: New Student Orientation | All Freshman Edge students should attend SPOP in addition to Freshman Edge. Please see our SPOP page for more details. |
Step 10: Housing (optional) (Unavailable for Summer 2020) | If you want to live on-campus during Freshman Edge be sure to indicate that you are interested in on-campus housing in your enrollment information. Once you have received your Welcome E-mail, follow the instructions included inside to enroll in Freshman Edge Housing. Please note that Summer Bridge awardees will receive housing information along with their offer letter. |
Step 11: Health Insurance (optional) | VOLUNTARY ENROLLMENT IN STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN (UC SHIP) Enrollment in Freshman Edge does not include medical or other types of insurance. Students may enroll in the Voluntary Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) for the program dates of early August through late September. Students who will not be covered during the program by a major medical health insurance should strongly consider enrolling in Voluntary UC SHIP. More information on UC SHIP is also available. Please note that all registered UCI students are automatically enrolled, beginning their first fall quarter (fall 2020), in the University of California Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) in fall, winter, spring and summer terms. The UC SHIP fee will be included in your fall 2020 registration fees, but is not included in your preceding summer 2020 registration fees. Enrolled Freshman Edge students will receive additional information regarding enrollment in the Summer Session Voluntary UC SHIP within your Welcome E-mail.
